UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to some of the world's most significant educational challenges. Despite comprising approximately 16% of the global population, the region accounts for a disproportionate share of the world's out-of-school children, with systemic barriers preventing millions from accessing quality education. Since the UN's adoption of the 1990 Education for All framework and the inclusion of education in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4), enrollment rates have risen, yet these initiatives led by UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Bank have not been enough to overcome poverty, conflict, and gender inequality. This committee will consider methods for the transformation of these educational systems beyond existing infrastructure. These solutions must consider the complex socioeconomic and cultural dynamics of the region, ensuring lasting impacts for the underserved youth.
