Living Indus is an umbrella initiative focused on the restoration of the Indus River Basin located predominantly in Pakistan and runs through China, Afghanistan, and India. Since 2021, it has worked towards restoring and promoting sustainable practices surrounding the Indus Basin. However, issues have arisen regarding tension between Pakistan and India. Due to this, a long-standing treaty, known as the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, which allocates the waterways of the Indus region, has been suspended. This, combined with the changing climate, has prevented the fulfillment of the Living Indus’ goals. The committee will discuss the coordination of inter-agency action to address the situation.
